Santa Maria Blast: 2 People Reportedly Injured

Two have been reportedly injured following the Santa Maria Blast.

It’s not clear what caused the incident however residents of the area claim to be living in the fear.

The incident is believed to have occurred about 3 pm in the afternoon of Tuesday.

A woman, known as Gladys Fiavi, is said to have been a victim in the Santa Maria blast, which resulted with her toe being removed.

In an effort to save Gladys the pregnant woman who walked by the scene fell unconscious and was rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.

Interview with JoyNews the local assemblyman who oversees the area said that he heard about the incident and was able to rush to the spot that the explosion took place.

“The incident occurred in the suburb of Santa Maria; it’s a polling station that is used to vote. At 3 o’clock in the afternoon] yesterday I got a call from a resident complaining of an explosion occurring in the area, similar to the sound of a dynamite explosion.

“I needed to hurry to the scene and I was able to report to NADMO and all people who were involved. We were at the scene, but we couldn’t identify the location where the blast occurred however, residents received a sound from the ground.” Nana Kofi Boandwoah said.

Eyewitnesses who assisted in transporting the injured woman to the Anyaa Polyclinic said they have never witnessed anything similar to that take place in the area before.

In light of this, residents have cordoned off the zone where the blast took place to keep others from getting near the area.

The Assemblyman also says “the Police and the NIB and other security agencies are undertaking investigations into the incident.”

“I would like to appeal to the necessary quarters and the stakeholders involved to come to our aid and solve this issue once and for all because we don’t know when it’s going to happen again,” said the official.

The injured are believed that they are responding well to treatments.
